Perform – Arts School

VISION

Within the rule which Reflection institution plays in the artistic training field, and according to what the performing arts' reality witnesses generally in Egypt and specifically in Alexandria, these are:

  1. Lack of performing venues and the weakness of theatrical equipping‏;
  2. Weakness in the academic scientific materials, especially within practical and training part in performing arts field‏;
  3. Existence of barriers that are adopted by procedural controls facing the accessibility for those who are interested in and eager to learn arts‏; 
  4. Lack of funding resources that are needed for performing arts productions‏;
  5. Lack of administrative experiences that are essential for a real effective development for performing arts and its labor in Alexandria‏;
  6. The current sincere trials for the advancement of performing arts movement do not create a comprehensive and cumulative effect‏;
  7. Weak knowledge that is complementary to the production process of performing arts, from knowledge related to the necessary regulatory frameworks‏.
  8. Weakness in the social rule that educational institutes should play in the performing arts field‏.

All of these have forced Reflection to adopt an artistic, sociocultural and developmental project that allows gathering expert academic trainers who have diverse performing arts experiences, with a number of emerging and established theatre artists. The project aims to build capacity through training and nurturing the artistic individuality of the theatre voices of tomorrow. It offers intensive training courses, workshops, seminars, and ongoing professional support. It aims to be the place to look for a new generation of theatre artists.

MISSION

To provide a training and educational service in the performing arts that are outside formal educational frameworks in Egypt, which opens the horizon of individual and collective imagination of the participants, and allows the generation of creative concepts are not common in the current reality in Egypt, and the creative implications that emerge from non-stereotypical minds, accordingly, creative and capable of finding diversity in artistic approach and plural in unique creative visions.

AIMS

The main aim of this school is to transmit to the participants, various resources and means with which to deepen and develop the capacities of their work based on physicality, composition and different levels of relationship in the domain of the Performing Arts (Theatre and Dance). The workshop will explore the dramaturgy of the physical action, through the commitment of the body: as interrelation, as a composition element and in the perception and understanding of the space as 'habitat' where to place the participants' active presence when performing or 'acting'.

  1. Introducing the participants to the different theatre arts from starting points that go beyond the traditional knowledge, with a focus on the performing arts and differentiate it from the art of acting, which is just a component of the performing arts‏.
  2. Teaching participants different methods, styles and techniques of performing arts‏.
  3. To train the participants in the art of improvisational performance in its various forms and dialects, and ways to benefit from them, whether in the traditional plays or beyond‏.
  4. Emphasis on learning the ethics of the profession‏.
