Theatre and Human Rights – Women’s Social and Creative Skills

Reflection for Arts

Reflection for Arts launched this project to empower women and youth through theatre, dialogue, and collective creation. As the first Alexandria-based NGO to link performing arts with community development, we use theatre as a living space for expression, awareness, and change.

The project unfolds in four segments, combining workshops, community performances, and publications. Using Forum Theatre—a participatory method developed by Augusto Boal—we train young artists and activists to create performances that address real issues such as freedom of expression, domestic violence, and sexual harassment.

Through storytelling and performance, women from different generations transform their personal experiences into collective acts of resistance and healing. Audiences are invited to engage, reflect, and imagine alternative solutions, turning each show into a public dialogue.

By the project’s end, a theatrical production based on real stories of harassment was presented in Alexandria, Cairo, and Upper Egypt, alongside a series of publications documenting the process.

This project reflects Reflection for Arts’ vision of theatre as a catalyst for empowerment—where creativity, courage, and community come together to inspire social transformation.
