The Talkative

The Talkative is a dynamic theatre project that transforms real social issues into improvised comedic performances. Led by a group of performers skilled in theatre improvisation, the project uses humor and storytelling to reflect on everyday challenges faced by Egyptian society.

Each cycle begins with a team of newly graduated volunteers that investigates pressing social topics. They explore local and international experiences, community perceptions, and the responsibilities of authorities. Their findings are then developed into theatrical scenes and comedic monologues by a director, writer, and composer, creating performances that engage, provoke, and entertain.

The shows are presented every two months in public and semi-public spaces—cafés, squares, and cultural venues—bringing theatre closer to people’s daily lives. By combining artistic improvisation with academic inquiry, The Talkative bridges the gap between theatre and social awareness.
Its objectives include developing live theatre techniques that directly engage with social realities, training artists to address civic issues, and inspiring young people to volunteer and participate in cultural action. The project culminates each year with a special performance showcasing the most powerful scenes from all productions.
